Latest news about us

Welcome to 6 of the Best, the sun is out... sort of, the sky is blue... erm, well at least the evenings are getting longer!

Even though we love plumbing, fuses and circular saws, we reckon that a newsletter about them probably won't be the highlight of your day, so we thought we'd just jump in your inbox from time to time and share a few, slightly more practical, Urban Solutions with you.

Like us, we're sure you get lots of newsletters from all sorts of places. Some you read with interest, some you skim and some leave you wondering why on earth you received them.

We hope that this little peek into what makes us tick falls into one of the first two categories and gives you a bit of light relief from whatever else you're doing - who knows, some of it may even be really useful.

The best flick

Eastern Promises (out on DVD): We saw this one last night and thought it was fantastic. What's not to like about a dark-and-brooding-Russian-gangster-murder-turmoil-betrayal-love story with a scene about Borscht thrown in for good measure? Naomi Watts is great as the female lead (with the best British accent from a foreigner since Renée was Bridget) and Viggo Mortenssen was awesome as the über-cool Nikolai. It's not for the faint-hearted, but trust US, it's worth a night of your time.

The best read

The Week (available from all decent newsagents for £2.35): For those of you who are too important, too busy or just too lazy to check out the newspapers during the week, this light mag gives you what you need in bite-sized chunks - just enough to know the score, not too much that it's a yawn. Out every Saturday, it gives you all the ammo you need to get through a family meal and it's also a great way to swot up for the local pub quiz if that's your thing!

The best exercise

Right now it's all about the core, so this month, we're recommending The Plank! Lie face down with your hands below your shoulders. Raise up on to your forearms and toes - elbows should be shoulder width apart. Hold on for one minute, keeping your body in a straight line. Work up to 3 reps of one minute each. We say "do try this one at home" - please don't blame US if you hurt yourself, but do thank US when you're looking super-buff this Summer!

Here's a bit more info for those of you who need or want it...

The best eat

After all that exercise, the body needs to refuel. So where better to do that than The Warrington in W9. Love him or loathe him (we love him, by the way) Gordon Ramsey always delivers, great food and great service. Now he's taken over one of our fave pubs (you know the one, where everyone used to sit on the roundabout in the old days), you get to go to one of his restaurants, without the Claridges prices! We hope you like it, but if not, why not *!*??**! well tell him?

Have a look at this for the menu and directions.

The best slurp

Always thirsty for info, we found out an amazing fact the other day, that we thought we'd share with you. The time frame from purchasing a bottle of wine to consuming it is the quickest in which country in Europe? Yes, you guessed it, it's the UK. We thought it would be fun to tease you by recommending a wine that needs to "lay down" for a few years, so how about the 2005 St Hallett Blackwell Shiraz, Barossa Valley. At around £12.99 from Sainsbury's, this aussie beauty offers great vfm and will age for a decade with ease, softening as it goes. Go on, start your cellar now, even if it's wedged between the washing machine and the ironing board until your next property upgrade.

The best thing about US

When we're not debating where to get the best sandwich or what the best way to spend your Sunday is, we're working hard to provide all of our customers with the best possible levels of service that we can, with every job that we do.

From simple taps that won't shut off to a property refurb, we're committed to delivering the best service from our excellent team here. This month we've introduced our First Time Fix policy, which means if the part's in stock and you say go ahead, we'll fix it that same day. We've got an innovative way to get it to the engineer too! Give it a go.

If you like what you hear, or have a need that you think we might be able to help you with, give us a call or drop US a line at any time and put US to the test. We reckon we'll surprise you.

OK, that's it for May - hopefully you'll change (or make?) some plans based on our 6 of the Best, and maybe we'll even hear from you with a job enquiry? Stranger things have happened.
